Target: Farming communities in and around Kampala, with a focus on women-led farming units
Approach: Sustainable farming practices, food security training, and agricultural business development
Many of the families Tejan serves maintain farming activities on the urban and peri-urban periphery of Kampala, or come from farming backgrounds and want to rebuild agricultural livelihoods in Uganda. The Agricultural Capacity Programme provides the knowledge, skills, and market connections to make that possible.
What the Programme Delivers
- Sustainable farming practices: low-input, climate-adapted techniques suited to small plots in and around Kampala
- Food security and nutrition: training on growing for household consumption, preserving food, and ensuring nutritional diversity
- Agricultural business development: turning farming activity into income, including post-harvest handling, processing, packaging, and market linkages
- Women-led farming support: specific focus on women who are the primary farming decision-makers in their households, addressing the gender dynamics that often limit women’s access to land, inputs, and markets
- Peer farmer networks: building connections between farming families to share knowledge, labour, and market access
